Naturopathic food Intolerance testing

Using food intolerance testing, our naturopaths can find out what’s causing your little one’s sensitivities and fix the root cause for good.

Food intolerance testing is more relevant now than ever before

Food sensitivities impact at least 100 million people worldwide, and their frequency has gone up by over 70% in children in the past few years. These sensitivities cause everything from skin rashes and headaches to more chronic gastrointestinal conditions.

The symptoms of food sensitivities can differ between children, which makes it difficult to pinpoint the cause of many conditions. We don’t know why the body confuses common foods with potentially harmful ones, but we do know this: The overall health of the gastrointestinal tract and its microorganisms are related to the development and severity of food sensitivities.

Food sensitivities can develop because of:

  • Unbalanced diets
  • Enzyme deficiencies
  • Stress
  • Genetic predisposition
  • Infections and inflammation
  • Certain chemicals and medications
  • Environmental pollutants and toxins

Research shows that these factors can cause issues with overall digestive health and intestinal tract irritation, which is why it’s important to get on top of them with the support of a naturopath before they become serious problems.

How we test for food intolerances

Food intolerance testing measures both IgG (1-4) and Complement (C3d) to assess food intolerances and food sensitivities, and how significant they are.

Research shows that IgG antibodies are produced by the body against particular foods, which triggers inflammatory reactions in the body. When we combine testing for IgG antibodies with something called Complement (C3d) testing, we can measure that inflammation.

This allows us to grade the extent of the inflammation that a particular food may cause. When there’s a high level of inflammatory markers alongside IgG antibodies, it’s clear which foods a child’s body is sensitive to.

What we do after your child’s food intolerance test

Our goal is never to exclude any foods long-term, but we do want to identify the cause of the issue and remove those factors for a little while to give the body time to heal. From there, we reintroduce these foods gradually while supporting the body with herbs, nutrients and specific probiotics. With this approach, we work to strengthen the function of the digestive system to reduce their sensitivity to certain foods.
